André Navarra was a French cellist born in Biarritz. Alongside Pierre Fournier and Maurice Gendron, he was considered one of the three great French cellists of his time. Navarra won first prizes at the ages of 13 and 16 and began his solo career in 1931 with the Concerts Colonne. In 1937, he won a competition in Vienna, launching an international career that spanned over three decades. In addition to performing, he taught at the Paris Conservatoire, the Accademia in Siena, and the Vienna College of Music. His recordings include works by Bach, Dvořák, and Beethoven.
