Angela Hewitt is a Canadian pianist renowned for her interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach's works. Born in Ottawa, she began playing piano at the age of three. She studied at the University of Ottawa under Jean-Paul Sévilla. In 1985, she won the Toronto International Bach Piano Competition, launching her career. Her discography includes the complete keyboard works of Bach, as well as works by Couperin, Rameau, Scarlatti, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Fauré, Debussy, Chabrier, Ravel, and Messiaen. In 2015, she was appointed a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honor. In 2020, she received the City of Leipzig Bach Medal, awarded to a woman for the first time.
