Arcturus is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band formed in 1991. Their debut album, "Aspera Hiems Symfonia" (1996), blends elements of symphonic black metal and progressive metal. Subsequent albums, such as "La Masquerade Infernale" (1997) and "The Sham Mirrors" (2002), showcase their experimental approach to metal music. The band is notable for its members who are also active in other prominent Norwegian metal bands, including Mayhem and Ulver.
