Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was an Italian pianist renowned for his precise technique and interpretations of works by composers such as Debussy, Ravel, and Chopin. Born in Brescia, he studied at the Milan Conservatory, graduating with honors at the age of 14. In 1939, he won first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition. Throughout his career, he was known for his limited repertoire, but his performances were highly regarded for their clarity and control of tone. Notable students included Maurizio Pollini and Martha Argerich. Michelangeli passed away in 1995 in Lugano, Switzerland.
