Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk group formed in 1973 in Rio de Janeiro. The original lineup consisted of José Roberto Bertrami (keyboards), Alex Malheiros (bass, guitars), and Ivan Conti (drums, percussion). The band is known for their unique style called "Samba Doido" or "crazy samba," which blends jazz, funk, and Brazilian rhythms. Their most notable albums include "Light as a Feather" (1979), featuring the hit "Jazz Carnival," "Aguia Não Come Mosca" (1977), and "Outubro" (1980). After Bertrami's death in 2012, Kiko Continentino joined as the keyboardist. In April 2023, drummer Ivan Conti passed away, succeeded by Renato "Massa" Calmon. Azymuth continues to create and perform, with their music influencing many artists and being remixed by various electronic performers.
