Bill Monroe, known as the "Father of Bluegrass," was an American mandolinist, singer, and songwriter who created the bluegrass genre. Born in Rosine, Kentucky, he formed the band The Blue Grass Boys in 1939. Their music combined traditional Appalachian melodies with elements of blues and jazz, resulting in the distinctive "high lonesome" sound. Among his most notable compositions are "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and "Uncle Pen." Monroe was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1970, and his influence on American music is undeniable.
