Brian Elias is a British composer born in Bombay, who has lived in the United Kingdom since the age of thirteen. He studied at the Royal College of Music and privately with Elisabeth Lutyens. His first major orchestral work, L'Eylah, premiered at the BBC Proms in 1984. Elias collaborated with Kenneth MacMillan on his final ballet, The Judas Tree, which premiered in 1992 at the Royal Opera House. He has won two British Composer Awards for his works Doubles (2010) and Electra Mourns (2013). His oeuvre includes orchestral compositions, chamber music, and songs, which have been widely performed and recorded by leading orchestras and soloists.
