Christoph von Dohnányi is a German conductor born in Berlin in 1929. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and later with his grandfather, Ernő Dohnányi, at Florida State University. He began his career as an assistant to Georg Solti at the Frankfurt Opera. From 1984 to 2002, he served as the music director of The Cleveland Orchestra, recording the complete symphonies of Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. He also held positions as principal conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London and the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg. His discography includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, and Wagner.
