Curtis Mayfield (1942–1999) was an American singer, songwriter, and producer known for his contributions to soul music and socially conscious lyrics. He began as a member of The Impressions, writing hits like "People Get Ready". In 1970, he launched a solo career, releasing albums such as "Curtis" and the "Super Fly" soundtrack. His music blended elements of soul, R&B, and funk. Mayfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: with The Impressions in 1991 and as a solo artist in 1999.
