Daniel Barenboim is an Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor who served as the general music director of the Berlin State Opera and "Staatskapellmeister" of its orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, from 1992 until January 2023. During his tenure in Berlin, he led the Staatskapelle Berlin in recordings of Beethoven's complete symphonies and Elgar's works, including "Sea Pictures" and "Falstaff". Barenboim is known for his work with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a Seville-based ensemble of young Arab and Israeli musicians, and is a resolute critic of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.
