Daniel Barenboim is an Argentine-Israeli pianist and conductor born in Buenos Aires in 1942. He began his career as a child prodigy, debuting at Carnegie Hall in 1957 at the age of 14. He has served as chief conductor of the Orchestre de Paris (1975–1989), music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1991–2006), and general music director of the Berlin State Opera (1992–2023). In 1999, he co-founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Edward Said to promote understanding between Israeli and Palestinian musicians.
