Darkthrone is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1986 in Kolbotn. Initially starting as a death metal band under the name Black Death, they transitioned to a black metal style in 1991, influenced by bands like Bathory and Celtic Frost. Their first three black metal albums—"A Blaze in the Northern Sky" (1992), "Under a Funeral Moon" (1993), and "Transilvanian Hunger" (1994)—are often referred to as the "Unholy Trinity" and are considered seminal works in the genre. Since 1993, the band has operated as a duo consisting of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto. In later years, they incorporated elements of traditional heavy metal, speed metal, and punk rock into their music.
