David Virelles is a Cuban jazz pianist and composer born in 1983 in Santiago de Cuba. He grew up in a musical family; his father was a singer-songwriter, and his mother a flutist and music teacher. Virelles began classical piano studies at the age of seven and later moved to Canada to continue his musical education. In 2009, he settled in New York City and collaborated with prominent jazz musicians such as Henry Threadgill, Andrew Cyrille, and Chris Potter. His notable albums include "Mbókò" (2014), "Gnosis" (2017), and "Carta" (2023). Virelles is known for blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with modern jazz.
