Digital Underground is an American hip-hop group from Oakland, California, formed in 1987 by Greg "Shock G" Jacobs, Jimi "Chopmaster J" Dright, and Kenneth "Kenny-K" Waters. The group is known for incorporating 1970s funk samples, which became a defining element of West Coast rap. Their 1990 debut album, "Sex Packets," features the hit "The Humpty Dance," which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Digital Underground also launched the career of Tupac Shakur, who appeared on their 1991 track "Same Song." The group released several other albums, including "Sons of the P" (1991) and "The Body-Hat Syndrome" (1993). Shock G passed away in 2021, but Digital Underground continues to tour.
