Elīna Garanča is a Latvian mezzo-soprano born in Riga. She studied singing at the Latvian Academy of Music, continuing her studies in Vienna and the United States. She began her professional career in 1998 at the Meiningen Court Theatre in Germany. Garanča achieved international breakthrough in 2003 at the Salzburg Festival as Annio in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito. She is renowned for her performances in leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she debuted in 2008 as Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia. Garanča is known for her interpretations of roles such as Carmen, Charlotte in Werther, and Sesto in La clemenza di Tito. Her discography includes albums like Aria Cantilena, Romantique, and Meditation, with the latter two earning ECHO Klassik awards.
