Esa-Pekka Salonen is a Finnish conductor and composer born in Helsinki in 1958. He studied at the Sibelius Academy and later led the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1992 to 2009. During his tenure in Los Angeles, he premiered works such as "L.A. Variations" and "Violin Concerto," for which he received the Grawemeyer Award in 2012. In 2020, he became the music director of the San Francisco Symphony. In 2024, he was awarded the Polar Music Prize. Salonen is known for his contributions to contemporary classical music, and his works are frequently performed by leading orchestras worldwide.
