Frans Brüggen was a Dutch conductor, recorder player, and baroque flautist. Born in Amsterdam, he studied musicology at the University of Amsterdam. At 21, he was appointed professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 1981, he co-founded the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, specializing in performing 18th and early 19th-century music on historical instruments. Brüggen was renowned for his recordings of works by composers such as Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. He collaborated with notable musicians like Gustav Leonhardt and Anner Bylsma.
