Future Islands is an American synth-pop band formed in 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. The members are Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass guitar and guitars), Samuel T. Herring (vocals), and Michael Lowry (drums). The band gained international recognition in 2014 with their fourth album "Singles," whose lead single "Seasons (Waiting on You)" was named the best song of the year by Pitchfork and NME. Their seventh studio album, "People Who Aren't There Anymore," was released in January 2024. Future Islands are known for their energetic live performances and unique musical style combining synth-pop, alternative rock, and indie pop.
