Georg Katzer was a German composer and educator, born in 1935 in Habelschwerdt (now Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Poland). He studied composition in Berlin and Prague, being the last student of Hanns Eisler. In 1982, he founded the first electronic music studio in the German Democratic Republic. His work encompasses orchestral pieces, operas, ballets, and electroacoustic compositions. Notable works include "Mensch und Maschine" and "String Quartets". Katzer received numerous awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He passed away in 2019 in Berlin.
