Georg Muffat was a Baroque composer and organist born on June 1, 1653, in Megève, Savoy (now France). He studied in Paris, where he became acquainted with Jean-Baptiste Lully's style, and later in Rome under Arcangelo Corelli and Bernardo Pasquini. Muffat is known for his orchestral suites "Florilegium Primum" (1695) and "Florilegium Secundum" (1698), which blend French and Italian musical styles. His "Armonico Tributo" (1682) is one of the earliest collections of concerti grossi in German-speaking countries. He died on February 23, 1704, in Passau, Germany.
