George Barnes was an American jazz guitarist born in South Chicago Heights, Illinois. He was a pioneer of the electric guitar, claiming to have used it as early as 1931. In 1938, he became the first musician to record on electric guitar, preceding Eddie Durham and Charlie Christian. Throughout his career, he collaborated with Carl Kress, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Ruby Braff. Notable albums include "Guitar in Velvet" (1957) and "Country Jazz" (1957).
