Georges Prêtre was a French conductor renowned for his collaborations with major opera houses and orchestras worldwide. In 1959, he conducted the premiere of Francis Poulenc's opera "La Voix Humaine" at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. Prêtre was a favored conductor of Maria Callas, with whom he recorded operas such as "Carmen" and "Tosca". From 1986 to 1991, he served as the principal conductor of the Vienna Symphony. In 2008 and again in 2010, he conducted the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, becoming the first French conductor to lead this prestigious event.
