Gidon Kremer is a Latvian violinist born in Riga in 1947. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory under David Oistrakh. In 1970, he won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In 1981, he founded the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival and in 1997, the chamber orchestra Kremerata Baltica. His discography includes over 120 albums, such as "Hommage à Piazzolla" and "Weinberg: Sonatas for Violin Solo". Kremer is known for interpreting works by composers like Mieczysław Weinberg and Astor Piazzolla. He has received awards including the Praemium Imperiale and the Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts.
