Gustavo Santaolalla is an Argentine musician, composer, and producer known for his minimalist approach to music. He began his career in 1967 as a co-founder of the band Arco Iris, which influenced the rock nacional genre. After moving to Los Angeles in 1978, he became a significant figure in the rock en español movement, producing albums for over 100 artists. His 1998 solo album 'Ronroco' caught the attention of filmmakers, leading to his work on film soundtracks such as 'Amores perros' and 'Diarios de motocicleta'.
