Isaac Hayes (1942–2008) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor known for his contributions to the Southern soul genre. A key figure at Stax Records in the 1960s, he collaborated with David Porter on hits like "Soul Man" for Sam & Dave. His album "Hot Buttered Soul" (1969) is considered a landmark in soul music. Hayes won an Academy Award for "Theme from Shaft" (1971), becoming the first African American to receive this honor in that category.
