Jacobus Clemens non Papa was a Flemish Renaissance composer active in the 16th century. He was renowned for his polyphonic settings of the psalms in Dutch, known as the Souterliedekens. Throughout his career, he worked in various cities across Belgium and the Netherlands, including Bruges, Antwerp, and Ypres. His oeuvre includes approximately 15 masses, 233 motets, and over 100 secular works. Clemens was a significant representative of the Franco-Flemish school, and his music influenced later composers such as Orlande de Lassus.
