James Brandon Lewis is an American jazz saxophonist and composer known for his unique style that blends gospel, blues, and R&B with avant-garde jazz influences. After graduating from Howard University in 2006 and earning an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2010, he moved to New York City, where he released his debut album, "Divine Travels," in 2014. His notable works include "Days of FreeMan" (2015), "Jesup Wagon" (2021), and "Eye of I" (2023). Lewis is also a co-founder of the music and poetry ensemble Heroes Are Gang Leaders and was recognized as the "Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist" in the DownBeat International Critics Poll in 2020.
