Jean-Pierre Rampal was a French flutist born in Marseille in 1922. During World War II, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won first prize in flute performance. After the war, he became the principal flutist of the Paris Opera and began an international career as a soloist. Rampal was renowned for his interpretation of Baroque music and collaborated with artists such as Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich. Notable recordings include "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano" with Claude Bolling, which remained on the Billboard chart for ten years. In 1989, he published his autobiography "Music, My Love."
