João do Pife, born João Alfredo Marques dos Santos in 1943 in Riacho das Almas, is a Brazilian musician renowned for his mastery of the pífano, a traditional seven-hole wooden flute from northeastern Brazil. His 1975 album "Folclore Alagoano" features tracks like "Garoto Do Pife" and "Homenagem a Ludugero," which were reissued on 7" vinyl in 2025. João do Pife is considered an ambassador of northern Brazilian culture and folklore, with his music highlighting the traditional melodies of the pífano accompanied by accordion and organ.
