John King is an American composer, guitarist, and violist known for his works with ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet, Ethel, and Bang on a Can All-Stars. His compositions include seven operas, notably 'ping' and 'WHAT IS THE WORD' with texts by Samuel Beckett. King served as the music curator at The Kitchen from 1999 to 2003 and received the Alpert Award in the Arts for music in 2009.
