Johnny Hoes was a Dutch singer, songwriter, and producer, known as the "king of the folk song". Throughout his career, he wrote approximately 2,000 songs and received 200 gold records. His single "Och was ik maar bij moeder thuis gebleven" is the best-selling Dutch single of all time. Hoes was also the founder of the record label Telstar and collaborated with artists like Zangeres Zonder Naam. His work encompasses a wide range of themes, from love songs to sailor ballads.
