Kenny Cox was an American jazz pianist known for his work in the post-bop, hard-bop, and bebop genres. In the 1960s, he served as the pianist for vocalist Etta Jones and was a member of a quintet led by trombonist George Bohannon. In 1968, he formed his own Contemporary Jazz Quintet, which released two albums on Blue Note Records: "Introducing Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet" and "Multidirection". Cox collaborated with artists such as Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Eddie Harris, and Jackie McLean. In the 1980s, he founded the Detroit-based Guerilla Jam Band, performing with Regina Carter and James Carter. He was also the founder of the short-lived Strata Records.
