Larry Darnell was an American singer who played a pivotal role in shaping the New Orleans R&B style in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Born Leo Edward Donald, Jr. in Columbus, Ohio, he achieved local fame as a gospel singer by the age of 11. In 1949, he signed with Regal Records, and his initial recordings "I'll Get Along Somehow" and "For You My Love" both charted on the R&B charts, with "For You My Love" reaching number one and staying there for eight weeks.
