Lukas Mantel Sextet is a Swiss jazz ensemble led by drummer Lukas Mantel. Their album "Vardah," released in October 2019 under Double Moon Records, is inspired by the Vardah cyclone that Mantel experienced in Chennai in December 2016. The album comprises eight tracks reflecting the cyclone's dynamics and unpredictability, blending rhythmic complexity with folkloric melodies. The group includes tenor saxophonist and clarinetist Rafael Schilt, trumpeter Matthias Spillmann, guitarist Travis Reuter, keyboardist Max Petersen, and bassist Lukas Traxel. Together, they create harmonic-melodic structures that develop organically.
