MC5 was an American rock band formed in 1963 in Lincoln Park, Michigan. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson. The band was known for its energetic style that combined elements of hard rock, garage rock, and proto-punk. Their 1969 debut live album, "Kick Out the Jams," is considered a classic of the genre. This was followed by studio albums "Back in the USA" (1970) and "High Time" (1971). MC5 was also known for its politically charged lyrics and activism, influencing many later punk and hard rock bands. In 2024, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
