Merritt Brunies was an American jazz cornetist and trombonist from New Orleans. Between 1924 and 1926, he led the Friars Inn Orchestra in Chicago, recording tracks such as "Angry" and "Up Jumped The Devil". He hailed from the musical Brunies family, with his brother Henry playing trombone in his band. After returning to New Orleans in 1930, he continued performing in various clubs and later moved to Mississippi, where he played in the Brunies Brothers Dixieland Jazz Band.
