Mountain was an American rock band formed in 1969 on Long Island, New York. The original lineup consisted of vocalist-guitarist Leslie West, bassist-vocalist Felix Pappalardi, keyboardist Steve Knight, and drummer N.D. Smart, who was soon replaced by Corky Laing. The band is best known for their 1970 hit "Mississippi Queen" and their performance at the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Their musical style encompassed hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal. Mountain influenced the development of heavy metal in the 1970s, and their song "Long Red" has been widely sampled in hip-hop music.
