cd - Naima Joris

Naima Joris is a Belgian singer and multi-instrumentalist who gained recognition later in life with her poignant and understated style, focusing on themes of grief, stillness, and solace. Her warm, fragile voice and minimalist, often acoustic arrangements make her work distinctive and moving. Naima began singing and playing guitar at the age of 27 and briefly worked as a backing vocalist for bands such as Isbells and Raymond van het Groenewoud. In 2016, she was introduced as a guest vocalist in her father, jazz musician Chris Joris's band, marking the start of her own musical journey. After a personal debut EP in 2021 and the album "Tribute to Daniel Johnston," she released "While the Moon" in 2022 with musicians Niels Van Heertum, Lara Rosseel, Vitja Pauwels, and Tijl Piryns. Currently, Naima is touring with her new album "Enjoy the Silence" (2025), featuring personal covers of songs by Nick Drake, Billie Holiday, and Tom Waits, in collaboration with guitarist Vitja Pauwels. Additionally, she performs with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra in the project "Saudade," where they interpret melancholic songs by artists such as Amália Rodrigues, Stromae, and Abbey Lincoln, subtly arranged for big band and voice.
