Peter Herbert is an Austrian double bassist and composer, born on February 29, 1960, in Bludenz, Austria. After studying classical music, he moved to New York, where he lived from 1989 to 2003, before settling in Paris. Herbert is known for his work in improvised music and jazz, collaborating with artists such as Marc Copland, John Abercrombie, Bobby Previte, and Marcel Khalife. His discography includes over 170 recordings, including albums like "Naked Bass" and "Naked Bass II". Additionally, Herbert is a prolific composer, writing for various orchestras and chamber groups. In 2001, he received the Hans Koller Prize as "Musician of the Year". Since 2007, he has been teaching double bass at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.
