Pony Poindexter was an American jazz saxophonist born in New Orleans in 1926. After studying under Sidney Desvigne and at the Candell Conservatory of Music in Oakland, he played with Billy Eckstine and Lionel Hampton. In 1962, he released his debut album "Pony's Express" featuring musicians like Eric Dolphy and Dexter Gordon. Poindexter was known for his alto and soprano saxophone playing and collaborated with artists such as Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and Annie Ross.
