R.E.M. was an American alternative rock band formed in 1980 in Athens, Georgia, comprising Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass), and Bill Berry (drums). Their 1983 debut album, "Murmur," received critical acclaim. Notable songs include "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts." The band won three Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. After Berry's departure in 1997, they continued as a trio until disbanding in 2011.
