Reinbert de Leeuw was a Dutch conductor, pianist, and composer renowned for his interpretation of contemporary music. He studied music theory and piano at the Amsterdam Conservatoire and composition with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 1974, he founded the Schönberg Ensemble, focusing on works of the Second Viennese School. De Leeuw was also acclaimed for his recordings of Erik Satie's piano works. He served as a guest conductor with leading European and American orchestras and was a professor at Leiden University.
