Richard Bonynge is an Australian conductor renowned for his collaboration with soprano Joan Sutherland. He studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and later at the Royal College of Music in London. Bonynge began his career as a piano accompanist for singers, including Sutherland, whom he married in 1954. He made his operatic conducting debut in 1963 in Vancouver with "Faust." Bonynge is known for his focus on bel canto operas and lesser-known works.
