Robert Nighthawk, born Robert Lee McCollum, was an American blues slide guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Born in Arkansas, he worked in cities like Memphis and St. Louis during his career. He made his first recording in 1937 for Bluebird Records in Chicago. Throughout his career, he used various pseudonyms, including Robert Lee McCoy, Ramblin' Bob, and Peetie's Boy. In the late 1940s, he recorded for Aristocrat Records, later known as Chess Records, under the name Robert Nighthawk. His recordings from 1951 and 1952 for the United and States labels are considered significant. Nighthawk was known for his intense bottleneck guitar style, which influenced many musicians, including Elmore James. He was rediscovered in the 1960s and experienced a brief career revival before his death in 1967.
