Santtu-Matias Rouvali is a Finnish conductor and percussionist, born on November 5, 1985, in Lahti. He studied conducting at the Sibelius Academy under Jorma Panula, Leif Segerstam, and Hannu Lintu. From 2013 to 2023, he served as the chief conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2017, he became the chief conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and in 2021, the principal conductor of the London Philharmonia Orchestra. Rouvali is known for his recordings of Jean Sibelius's works, which have received awards such as the Gramophone Editor’s Choice and Diapason d’Or. He has collaborated with renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic.
