Sergei Babayan is an Armenian-American pianist born in 1961 in Gyumri, Armenian SSR. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Mikhail Pletnev, Vera Gornostayeva, and Lev Naumov. After moving to the United States in 1989, he won first prizes in several international competitions, including the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition. Babayan has performed with leading orchestras such as The Cleveland Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with conductors like Valery Gergiev and Yuri Temirkanov. His discography includes albums like "Prokofiev for Two" with Martha Argerich and "Rachmaninoff: Preludes - Etudes-Tableaux - Moments".
