Shabaka and the Ancestors is a musical project led by British-Barbadian saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings, formed in 2016. The group has released two albums: "Wisdom of Elders" (2016) and "We Are Sent Here by History" (2020). Their music blends jazz, afrobeat, and free jazz, drawing from African and Afro-Caribbean traditions. Hutchings is also a member of the bands Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming. "We Are Sent Here by History" was recorded in South Africa and released under the Impulse! Records label. The group is known for their energetic performances and innovative approach to jazz music.
