Shigeru Umebayashi is a Japanese composer known for his film scores. Originally the leader and bassist of the new wave rock band EX, which disbanded in 1985, he began composing film music thereafter. Since then, he has created over 30 soundtracks for Japanese and Chinese films. Among his most notable works is "Yumeji's Theme" from Seijun Suzuki's film "Yumeji," later used in Wong Kar-wai's "In the Mood for Love."
