The Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO) is a 67-member ensemble founded in 2002, dedicated to blending jazz and classical music. Their debut album, "Looking Forward, Looking Back" (2015), features compositions by George Duke and Lee Ritenour, as well as an interpretation of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." The album includes collaborations with artists such as Christian McBride, Bill Cunliffe, and Peter Erskine. SJO continues the symphonic jazz tradition initiated by Paul Whiteman in 1924.
