The Essence is a Dutch new wave/gothic rock band from Rotterdam, formed in 1984. In 1985, they signed with the UK label Midnight Music and released their debut album "Purity". Their second album, "A Monument of Trust" (1987), featured the single "A Mirage", which became a hit in Spain. The band is known for their sound reminiscent of The Cure, with vocalist Hans Diener having a voice similar to Robert Smith. Other notable albums include "Ecstasy" (1988) and "Nothing Lasts Forever" (1991). The products available from the artist The Essence include CDs.
